Evolution Free Zone’s environmental education program with FUNDEMA and Primates de Grecia.
Tacares de Grecia, July 2025. With the commitment to strengthen environmental awareness in new generations, Evolution Free Zone carried out for the second consecutive year its environmental education program in 8 schools in the canton of Grecia, a community of direct geographical influence of this Free Zone.
The initiative, developed in partnership with local organizations such as the Foundation for the Development of Ecology and the Environment (FUNDEMA) and Primates de Grecia, benefited 288 first-cycle students this year, who participated in workshops and exhibitions that addressed key issues related to environmental conservation and harmonious coexistence with the wildlife of the region.
This action also benefited 375 students who received environmental training in 2024, for a total of 663 schoolchildren in two years.
“Our goal is that children grow up with a solid environmental awareness and become active leaders of change, promoting respect for their environment and assuming a responsible role from an early age. These community outreach spaces are a commitment to sustainable development and the wellbeing of future generations”, stated Carlos Wong, Managing Director of CODE Development Group, codeveloper of Evolution Free Zone.
This year the environmental education days were reinforced with the creation of a book: “Adventures in the World of Solid Waste”, part of the Guardians of the Planet series. It is a coloring material, with 22 stories that start with the letter R (such as Reduce, Resolve and Responsibility), seeking to teach about proper waste management in a didactic and familiar way.
“We want to encourage children to become true guardians of the planet. By keeping them away from screens and allowing them to color and talk about the content of the books, we promote learning at home and at school”, commented Hamer Salazar, environmentalist representing the FUNDEMA organization, author of the book, and also a resident of Greece.
Donation of Ecological Points
As part of a comprehensive strategy with the community, last year Evolution Free Zone, FUNDEMA and Primates de Grecia donated Ecological Point stations to each of the participating schools, with the objective of strengthening solid waste management within the educational centers.
“This process has been very beneficial. The awareness that has been generated in the children is very important and makes it easier for us as an educational center to educate them with this environmental commitment,” said Yendry Céspedes, principal of the Silvestre Rojas school, expressing her gratitude.
Vargas added that this initiative seeks to promote recycling and the correct disposal of waste, and is part of a greater commitment to encourage sustainable practices in the educational community.
Given the positive impact of the program and the excellent reception by students and teachers, Evolution Free Zone and the organizations plan to extend this initiative to other cantons in the Western Region by 2026, with the objective of continuing to raise environmental awareness among elementary school children.
