Grecia, August 25, 2025. With the aim of strengthening connectivity between forested areas in the western region of Alajuela, Evolution Free Zone planted more than 3,000 trees in the community of Chilamate de Poás.
These are native species, such as Jorco, Guachipelín, Guaba, Cedro Amargo, Lorito, Achiotillo, Chaperno, Cas, Vainillo, Corteza Amarillo (Yellow Trumpet Tree), Mamón, Colpachi, and Sota Caballo, which will promote ecological connectivity between forested areas and contribute to the continuity of biological corridors. At the same time, these trees promote the creation of safe spaces that provide shelter and food for a wide variety of animals, thus favoring natural biodiversity processes in the region.
The initiative was organized thanks to a cooperation agreement between Evolution Free Zone and the Municipality of Poás, and is part of the reforestation plan for the Western Region included in the Sustainability Strategy of the business Park, developed by CODE Development Group.
More than 190 volunteers participated in planting trees on two hectares of land, including staff and members of the CODE Development Group Management Committee, employees of companies located in Evolution Free Zone, and the Municipality of Poás.
The species planted were selected for their ecological value, their ability to adapt to the environment, and their importance to local wildlife, as well as for their contribution to soil stability and the protection of forests and rivers. In addition, the initiative raised awareness of the urgent need to protect the environment.
Álvaro Carballo, President of CODE Development Group, was pleased that this group of volunteers, which included employees from companies located in the Evolution Free Zone, participated in this new tree planting day. The activity took place in an important water recharge area that supplies several communities in the region, including Grecia, Poás, and Atenas.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to sustainable development, seeking not only to conserve natural resources, but also to improve the quality of life of those who live in the areas where our projects operate,” said Carballo.
“At CODE Development Group and Evolution Free Zone, we are deeply committed to sustainable development as a guiding principle that gives meaning to how we operate and interact with the environment. Planting trees symbolizes our respect for nature and represents our aspiration to continue being a catalyst for progress, creating shared value and lasting prosperity,” added Carlos Wong, CEO of CODE Development Group, developer of Evolution Free Zone.
