Forj Medical officially opens a new manufacturing facility in Costa Rica following a $15 million investment

September, 2026. Following a $15 million investment, Forj Medical, a global contract design and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for medical devices, opened its new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Evolution Free Zone in Alajuela. The company currently has more than 50 employees and expects to create more jobs in engineering, finance, manufacturing, and logistics by the end of 2026. It will continue expanding its workforce in 2027.

The Forj Medical facilities cover nearly 5,000 square meters and are equipped with ISO Class 8 cleanrooms, enabling the company to operate under the highest global quality standards. The infrastructure also includes administrative and operational areas designed to support the continued growth of the company in the country.

Its advanced manufacturing processes combine automated and manual assembly lines to produce finished medical devices and subassemblies. These capabilities enable Forj Medical to develop and manufacture solutions that support innovative medical technologies for customers whose products reach markets around the world and serve a wide range of healthcare applications, including surgical navigation, electrophysiology, diabetes control, drug delivery, and cardiovascular therapies.

Costa Rica’s geographical location was another key factor in the multinational company’s investment decision. Costa Rica — which is home to more than 100 companies in the Life Sciences sector — is also the world’s largest exporter of medical devices per capita. Forj Medical considers the country a strategic hub for optimizing its supply chains serving the North American market, helping reduce delivery times while providing additional logistical advantages.

The company, headquartered in the United States, currently operates six facilities across North America, Singapore, Indonesia, and now Costa Rica, where it has established a Manufacturing Center of Excellence dedicated to delivering world-class solutions.

As of July of this year, precision and medical equipment accounted for 46% of exports of goods from Costa Rica, with sales totaling $6,399 million. In addition, there is an ecosystem of more than 100 foreign direct investment companies employing over 63,000 people and creating opportunities to attract suppliers in increasingly specialized areas of activity.
