            • Evolution Free Zone congratulates the company for supporting its clients with nearshoring production to speed up response times.

December 2025. Trelleborg Medical Solutions, a Swedish-owned company that is part of the Trelleborg Group has announced the opening of its new 10,000-square-meter medical device manufacturing plant for clients in the Evolution Free Zone.

With the arrival of this company, this high-tech business park strengthens its growth and consolidates its leadership in strategic sectors for Costa Rica, such as medical devices and smart manufacturing.

The Acting Minister of Foreign Trade, Indiana Trejos, noted that “The decision of Trelleborg Medical Solutions to expand its global presence from Costa Rica is a strong vote of confidence in our country’s leadership within the medical device industry. This new plant—the company’s first operation in Central America—not only strengthens the ecosystem of companies that make up this strategic sector, but also reaffirms our long-term commitment to innovation, the development of specialized talent, and high-value manufacturing. We are proud to accompany Trelleborg Medical Solutions in this new phase and celebrate the quality employment and opportunities that this project will generate for Costa Ricans.

The capabilities offered by the Trelleborg Medical Solutions plant in Evolution Free Zone include liquid silicone rubber molding, dipping, thermoplastic production, and assembly, with the aim of supporting key initiatives and growth plans for customers in critical medical and healthcare applications. It also features clean room production and is designed to meet strict industry-specific standards for the manufacture of medical devices.

Linda Muroski, President of Trelleborg Medical Solutions, said: “We want to provide customers with medical devices, components, and finished products in one place. By producing components in a single plant and moving them to assembly under one roof, we reduce transportation costs and the management of multiple suppliers for our customers, saving them money. As a result, they can be more competitive and profitable. We are creating reliable solutions that enable our customers to deliver life-saving medical devices to patients around the world.

“Strategically, the location of Costa Rica gives us the reach and responsiveness needed to directly support North American, European, and global markets, offering exactly what the industry demands, when it needs it,” Muroski continues.

At the official opening of these facilities, Evolution Free Zone congratulated the company for the support it will provide to its clients by facilitating supply chain continuity through a global manufacturing and distribution base.

Carlos Wong, Managing Director of CODE Development Group, the developer of Evolution Free Zone, assured that the choice of Trelleborg Medical Solutions to set up its operations in our high-tech business park demonstrates the confidence that the company has in the business ecosystem we offer for successful operation in Costa Rica.

“Evolution Free Zone offers ideal conditions for companies such as Trelleborg Medical Solutions to set up in Costa Rica and provide their customers with medical devices, components, and finished products in one place, with the highest standards of innovation and global competitiveness,” Wong explained.

For her part, Laura López, General Manager of the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER), said, “The opening of this new plant reaffirms the confidence that global companies have in the competitive and highly specialized ecosystem offered by Costa Rica. In a country where more than 95 medical device companies already operate, this investment will provide quality jobs for the region and strengthen our capacity to support a sector that continues to expand. The value proposition of Costa Rica—based on talent, innovation, and reliability—continues to position us as a strategic partner for the development of sophisticated and cutting-edge initiatives.

            Modern facilities

The new building, located in Evolution Free Zone, reflects Trelleborg’s commitment to responsible operations and is part of its vision to operate with net-zero emissions by the end of 2035.

Yonatan Necoechea, developer of the project in Costa Rica and President of Operations of Trelleborg Medical Device Solutions, affirms: “The new facilities are designed to ensure long-term sustainability, incorporating features such as roofs prepared for the installation of solar panels, energy-efficient construction systems, and water-saving landscaping.

“We are committed to obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification and have prioritized environmental stewardship from the earliest stages of planning through construction. Every element of these facilities, from eco-friendly materials to advanced resource management systems, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to responsible growth.”

Evolution Free Zone has direct access to the country’s main highways and ports, and is located near the Juan Santamaría International Airport. In addition, it is less than 30 minutes from the main cities in western Costa Rica, giving it access to a large workforce with excellent technical and academic qualifications.

“Costa Rica has a strong group of highly qualified professionals, backed by solid technical education and government-supported training initiatives. This allows us to offer consistent quality in the manufacture of medical products and positions the country as a leader in high-value specialized production,” concluded Muroski.
