Costa Rica ranks first worldwide in Foreign Direct Investment

January 2024. According to the Greenfield Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Performance Index developed by fDi Intelligence, Costa Rica stands out as a global leader in attracting this model in proportion to its economy.

Previously Costa Rica has been recognized as one of the Central American countries with the highest income from Foreign Direct Investment. Between 1990 and 2016, the country achieved a notable 4.3% of its GDP from FDI, ranking second in the region, just behind Panama, which reached 6.2% of GDP in FDI income.

Costa Rica is considered an attractive global investment destination. In fact, it has been chosen as the third-best country to invest in, surpassed only by Uruguay and Saudi Arabia in the global ranking.

The investment climate in Costa Rica has been highlighted for its political stability, which has contributed to creating a favorable business environment. Additionally, the country’s entry into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in May 2020 has improved its competitiveness and reinforced its appeal as an investment destination for foreign investors.
