Recently we welcomed a significant addition to our facilities—a monumental sculpture that stands as a testament to our commitment to integrate innovation, technology, art, and culture.
After several meetings between the Board of Directors of CODE Development Group, developer company of Evolution Free Zone High-Tech Business Park , and Costa Rican artist Ángel Lara, a concept was solidified: human DNA.
As sculptor Ángel Lara explains, “The health theme is essential, and we began to explore how to materialize it. At the same time, we were seeking to conceptualize the virtue of this trend toward the medical industry to give Evolution Free Zone its essence. We landed on the spirit, the soul, the human DNA, the map of life.”
Once the concept was identified, the design process took about a year, involving sophisticated computer programs and rigorous research. The goal was to bring the idea to life and ensure it harmonized with its surroundings. The location— in front of Route 1, main entrance of the Park and inside a roundabout—was carefully selected to welcome visitors and employees with an illusion of movement. As one moves around the art piece, its symmetrical design, combined with the strategic placement of 13 angled metal discs, plays with light and shadow, creating a dynamic interplay of reflections.
The sculpture is crafted entirely from industrial-grade stainless steel, a material chosen for its acid, corrosion, and friction resistance. Standing 12 meters tall with a diameter of 2.5 meters, the sculpture is both massive and delicate, requiring meticulous handling. The installation was a feat of precision, with a dedicated team of technicians, engineers, and crane operators working for over four hours to ensure the art piece was securely and flawlessly positioned.
We are thrilled to bring this project to fruition after more than one year of meetings, design work, permits, and construction. It is a pleasure to feature a sculpture by a Costa Rican artist, in particular Ángel Lara, at Evolution Free Zone. We aspire to infuse our premises with art and culture, complementing our role as the fastest growing business ecosystem in Costa Rica,” said Álvaro Carballo, President of CODE Development Group.
This sculpture plays a role in transforming our High-Tech Business Park into a place where innovation and art not only coexist but also enhance each other, setting the stage for future artistic endeavors that will further enrich the environment.
